Flexible Packaging in India—Sustainability and the Need for Innovation Will Drive Change

Strong growth prospects in India's food & beverage market – driven by the increasing processing of agricultural produce and shifting consumption trends, from loose to packaged food – are expected to provide a tremendous boost to the country's consumer packaging demand.

But sustainability concerns and legislative restrictions for using plastic packaging will challenge all stakeholders in the food supply chain. As a result, film manufacturers and converters will be forced to become much more innovative towards developing value-add packaging products that are considered to be more sustainable than current offerings. In the medium to long term, the combination of these opportunities and challenges will lead to adopters consolidating and growing in size – pushing out laggards and slow reactors.
