Gene Editing in the G&O Sector

Gene editing helps to stabilize yields and develop more specialty products by improving the genetic background of crops. Six crops draw specific attention when it comes to using gene editing to improve their performance: rice, tomatoes, corn, wheat, potatoes, and soybeans. G&O crops such as corn, wheat, and soybeans are highly traded, but whether gene-edited crops will impact the G&O sector will depend on the global regulatory landscape. This report summarizes recent research around crops and global regulations, and identifies the potential disruptions brought by gene editing in the G&O sector.
