In late January, China released its ‘No. 1 Central Government Document’ for 2016. For the past 13 consecutive years, the document has focused on issues concerning agriculture, rural development and farmers. The 2016 edition underscores the importance of innovation and supply-side structural reforms in the context of the agricultural sector. It refers to reducing excessively high inventory, improving farming practices and strengthening the competitiveness of Chinese agriculture, making it more efficient and sustainable.
